
Captain Juan Bautista de Anza led an expedition back in 1776 from Sonara, Mexico to San Francisco Bay. Both him and Pedro Front passed through the Santa Clara Valley and named a stream Arroyo San Jose de Cupertino which is now called Stevens Creek.
Many of Cupertino’s earlier settlers planted grapes in the late 1800s. John Doyle, a San Francisco lawyer and historian founded his company, Cupertino Wine Co using the name that was given to the nearby creek by Pedro Font. Eventually the city itself was named Cupertino and was incorporated in 1955 making it Santa Clara County’s 13th city.
Today, Cupertino has grown to be a very populated city with an abundance of shops and restaurants as well as high tech companies such as Apple.
Cupertino is known for its top rated schools K-12. Cupertino is a very educated community, with over 76% of the population receiving a bachelor’s degree or higher. The median household income for Cupertino residents is $147,929 as of 2016. Over 60% of the population is Asian, followed by Caucasian (30%). The median age of Cupertino residents is 40 years old.
