Sunnyvale was originally named the City of Murphy after one of its first residents Martin Murphy Jr. in 1850. In 1901 when the residents were informed they couldn’t use the name Murphy for their post office, they changed the name of their town to Sunnyvale. Sunnyvale was incorporated and became an official city in 1912.

 

Sunnyvale is yet another high-tech city in Silicon Valley, home to many large companies such as Yahoo, NetApp, and Juniper Networks.

Sunnyvale is the 7th most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has a population of 152,771 as of 2016. Sunnyvale is ethnically diverse with a mixture of both Caucasians, Asians and Hispanics. The median age of a Sunnyvale resident is 35 years old.

Over 61% of this lovely community is well educated with a bachelor’s degree or higher. The median household income in Sunnyvale is $109,799.
